WordPress For iPhone App Moving to OS 3.0

Posted on 2 Sep 09 by John Bickerstaff

We’ve decided to standardize the WordPress For iPhone application on the new OS 3.0 going forward.  We’ve seen a large percentage of users upgrading to 3.0, as have other apps, and there are new features we want to focus on which are OS 3.0 specific.  Overall, it seems like a good time to make the switch.

For those of you who wish to stay on an earlier version of the OS, be sure to grab a copy of the current version in the app store (1.3) and you’ll be able to continue using that version on early OS versions for you iPhone or iPod Touch.

We’ll also be posting details about an upcoming beta test of 1.4 this week with the updated UI and a slew of behind the scenes updates that should greatly improve the app in terms of speed and compatibility.

Thanks for all your support and we look forward to bringing you some of those new features soon!

This is a welcome move IMO. I’d also love to see more administrative features in the iPhone app, such as plugin management, widget support, etc.

Any chance these features will be included in the next update?

@slugoo — no immediate plans for that kind of management, but please weigh-in and suggest what you’d like to see by posting in the forums: http://iphone.forums.wordpress.org/forum/requests-and-feedback

Look forward to the upgrade. Will it fix the bug that ocurrs when you try and add a photo to a post by taking a photo with the iPhone camera? Whenever i do this, the nav buttons depart, so i can’t save the picture or in fact do anything and i lose all my text in the post.

Do y’all have an ETA? I’m getting crashing every time I try and add my site. I’d love to beta test.

A feature I would like to see is the ability to delete posts or can you already do that if yes how?

Been using WordPress for a few years now and the iPhone for a little more than a year.

Would love to see both of them integrate better now that the OS 3.0.1 has also been released. Something I use so often and I’ve been using for years.

    Good move!

I downloaded this app over a week ago and cannot use it. Keep getting an error message that says, “We could not find the XML-RPC service for your blog. Please check your network connection and try again. If the problem persists, please visit “iphone.wordpress.org” to report the problem.

So, is this where I report the problem? And how to I get this resolved?

    Please advise.

please post details to the iPhone app forums — thanks.

I always assumed we’d be able to view our blogs through the app (besides going into the edit folder and clicking “preview”…and somehow being able to view blog stats through the app would be awesome.

    Hi Cathy,

You need to enable the service via the administration panel in WordPress for the xml-rpc service to work.

Very nice application, but unfortunately does not work on older platforms of 2.7!!!
