Version 1.3 is Live

Posted on 1 Jul 09 by Raanan Bar-Cohen

Version 1.3 is now live. This version addresses a few OS 3.0 compatibility issues that popped up. You can grab it now from the iTunes store.

Please note: Due to a strange glitch when submitting the app, the About page of the “1.3″ version will say version “1.21.1″. If you see that, you are running the correct version. We are working with Apple to understand why it would not accept “1.3″ as a valid version, yet displays that version in the iTunes store just fine.

There seems to be a problem downloading 1.3. The iTunes store shows version 1.3, but after downloading the version installed is 1.21.1. I have tried both updating the app directly from the iPhone and downloading through iTunes. Both ways show version 1.3 but install 1.21.1.

I still get errors whenever I try to add my blog (saying XML-RPC is unavailable, even though it is enabled and was working fine before upgrading to the 3.0 software). Hopefully this is just a temporary glitch with the App Store and will be taken care of soon.

    1. Raanan Bar-Cohen

Pat — if you see “1.21.1″ you are running the right version — it’s a glitch with the App store.

  2. Fabian

    Thank You! :)
    I will get it.

  3. Grimalkins

Pat – I noticed the same discrepancy between the version numbers and I’m also getting the same error… I had such high hopes for this app. :(

  4. Atlas Cerise

Is there not an option to delete pages and posts from within the WordPress app itself? If there is, I am completely missing it but would really like to know.

Finally. Was waiting for this version.

I downloaded it with no problem. Works great.

  8. mauko

Same error here like Pat, Meerblickzimmer and others…, can’t add my blog

    1. Raanan Bar-Cohen

mauko, Meerblickzimmer, Grimalkins, and Pat — can you guys open up a thread with more details here: http://iphone.forums.wordpress.org/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting. Please include your WP version and any plugins you may be running. I’m wondering if it’s a WordPress 2.8 specific issue or perhaps a popular plugin that is interfering.

  9. Krishna

Yes it’s fine when it comes to existing blogs but when I tried to add a new blog it gives me the error that XML-rpc doesn’t exist. Please correct this error than you

  10. Tall Thom

Getting the same errors. I have WP 2.8 running with the Members Only plugin and Registerplus.

I suspect it might be blocking the rpc requests. Will try to disable it.

  11. Christian Sasse

Same here with “We could not find the XML-RPC service for your network connection…”

Running latest WP 2.8 on Server and latest iPhone WP.

    iBlogger and Blogpress are working!!!

    Any tips?

  12. kudo

    works great!

  13. Steve

Does this version contain the optimizations identified by the clang static analyzer as seen in the WWDC session this year?

    1. Raanan Bar-Cohen

Steve — good question. As far as I know, nobody from Apple submitted a patch or sent us the details — I believe they were planning on doing that.

  14. Juan Cabanela

There appears to be no way to change the xmlrpc URL used (I obfuscate mine, just got tired of hacking attempts). Is there a way to do this?

    1. Raanan Bar-Cohen

Juan — the RSD tag should be the way to point to your xmlrpc – that’s what the app is looking for.

  15. Ed

Still crashes nearly always “on the first try” when moderating comments (in the moment I tap on the comment in order to mark it). The second try after a restart works most of the times

  16. Shaibani

    Mine upgraded just fine.

  17. Terri

I was getting the XML-RPC error as well but it’s cause this is the first time I’ve used the app – so i enabled it through the WP interface as instructed and it works like a champ as of right now!

  18. Ian

Works great. Thanks for the update!

After upgrading it still doesn’t work. I can’t even open it long enough to check what version I downloaded and installed – it closes itself immediately. I have a huge-ass travel log in draft waiting in there, am really getting fed up with the wait to be able to publish it.

Can anyone help me with this? :(

  21. katydidbug

(it’s good. still getting the occasional “only half the bodytext area shows editable text” but can live with a quick “rotate phone once then back” to fix it)

  22. Jaryd

The disappearing local drafts problem still persists. This really is a must fix soon problem in order for me to continent using the WordPress app. Other than that, great app.

  23. The Mommy Tsunami

Ahhhhh! I cannot get at my local draft! I spent all this time typing out a blog on my iPhone, only to have NOTHING appear under my local folder info… help!

    Hello wordpress team,

First of thanks for providing such a wonderful tool. But I am not able add my blog here. I am getting message: “We could not find the XML-RPC service for your network connection…”

I have tried all troubleshoot steps, but no luck. :(
    Any more suggestion?

  25. The Mommy Tsunami

Well, it appears in parentheses, but I cannot get at it otherwise. :-(

@robbie No. Not in the next release.

We’re having a problem with the app… it shows all of our drafts as having a modified date of November 24, 1999… even if we just modified the draft right now. Our published posts all have the proper date. Thanks!

  34. Scott Rose

One other thing… is the app supposed to only show us our 10 most recent entries? I was trying to go back to older entries but couldn’t find a way to do it. Besides that, great job… keep up the great work.

  35. Gareth Townsend

@Larry Have a look in the forums (http://iphone.forums.wordpress.org/), if you’re still having problems create a new post and we’ll try and help you out

@Steve and @scott Video is something we want to do, but it won’t be in the next release.

@Chillout Right now you need to do this yourself. We’re thinking about adding some form of Markdown or Textile support.

@Scott That dates issue is strange. Can you start a thread in the forums about it and we’ll try and figure it out.

  36. Daniel

Whenever I get all of my login info into the app and press save it crashes back to the home screen. I’ve yet to have been able to use this app :( hopefully it will get fixed soon.

    1. Raanan Bar-Cohen

Daneil — if you post a few more details in the forums we can take a look. You may also want to review the FAQ: http://iphone.wordpress.org/faq/

This has been driving me crazy for days. Finally a google search brought me the answer.

PS The problem still exists today, July 20, 2009. Thankfully, I now see that 1.2.1 IS the updated version 1.3.

  38. Michael

The app doesn’t work at all on 3.0. I try to set up my blog or whatever, and craves every time.

    1. Raanan Bar-Cohen

The app works on OS 3.0 — we’ll need a few more details on your setup, which if you post to the forums, we can take a look at — thanks.

  39. Gina

When I first loaded wordpress on my phone it worked perfectly. Then about the 4th attempt at using the app, it stopped working. It seems as if it is getting locked on the login page. I have the iphone 3.0 update installed and the version of wordpress says it’s 1.21.1 (which I believe is really 1.3). When I select my blog it brings me to the edit blog screen which asks me for my blog url, name, password, resize photo option and how many posts to show… my only option is to cancel or save (besides editing those fields which are correct). After I save or hit cancel it brings me back to the home page where I can select my blog. It’s a constant loop which does not allow me access to my blog. Do you have any suggestions?

I was having the same problem with the xmlrpc errors and while troubleshooting I noticed two things that were causing the connection issues.

    1. Make sure the URI: http://mysite.com/xmlrpc.php IS NOT CACHED. I noticed that in HyperCache that file was being cached and by adding the exception for the URI resolved the first issue.

    2. I was using the plugin WordPress Head Cleaner Plugin which was also reming the RSD meta data line . I deactivated the said plugin and after that WordPress connections were resolved.

    <link rel="EditURI" type="application/rsd+xml" title="RSD" href="http://example.com/xmlrpc.php?rsd" />

Also, if you add this line to your header, you can reactivate the WordPress Head Cleaner Plugin.

I believe these two items should go into the FAQ for the benefit of other people.
